Blue Knights International
The Blue Knights® are an Incorporated Fraternal Organisation comprising of Law Enforcement Officers from every aspect of Law and Order, who share a passion for Motorcycle Riding. The Blue Knights® came about as an Organisation in 1974 when a few friends from Bangor/Brewer, Maine, U.S.A. decided to form a local Recreational Motorcycle Club. This was to counter the adverse publicity and public perception of Motorcyclists following on from the Lawless Activities of the Motorcycle fraternity commonly known as the ‘Hells Angels’. Within two years of the small club being formed, it had become an International Organisation called the Blue Knights®. Today, the Blue Knights® have 588 Chapters in over twenty-three Countries (representing 30 Countries) spread across the World, with in excess of 19,268 Members. There are 18 Chapters in the United Kingdom with some 666 members.
A Comprehensive set of ‘Rules & Constitution’ has been developed, coupled with ‘Byelaws’ to enable the Organisation to be run on a very democratic basis. The Criteria for Membership is that a Prospective ‘Regular Member’ must either be a Serving or Retired Law Enforcement Officer: i.e. A Police Officer, Prison Officer, Customs & Excise or Immigration Officer, or even a Water Bailiff. In effect anyone who has a Statutory ‘Power of Arrest’ as part of their employment. An ‘Associate Member’ is either a Serving Retired or Part Time Officer in any of the above agencies, Special Constables etc. And lastly, ‘Honorary Members’, are those who have directly contributed to the cause of the ‘Blue Knights’, and whose application is approved by a vote of the Membership. The Club allows 10% of its Membership to be ‘Honorary’. more...
United Kingdom & Ireland Conference
The UKIC is one of 11 conferences that go to make up the Blue Knights® International organisation. In our conference we have a total of 20 chapters, the latest two of which were formed in November 2008 and we currently have a membership in the region of 620 scattered throughout the UK and Ireland.
Chapters in the UK were originally a part of the now defunct Atlantic Regional Conference, but in November 2002 the UK chapter Presidents formed the United Kingdom Conference. Later, with the formation of Ireland I, the UKC became the United Kingdom and Ireland Conference.
The current chapter presidents administer the conference with an elected board of officers consisting of current and past presidents who oversee the running of the conference on a day-to-day basis.
In the UK and Ireland, we have members who are serving as well retired police officers, customs officers, prison officers and members of the police services in all three branches of the armed forces, among others.
Wherever possible, the Blue Knights® throughout the world actively support charities in their areas. Here in the UKIC all the chapters support the charity, Care of Police Survivors (COPS) raising money each year to help the charity continue with its important work. more...
