Chapter Officers
The Chapter Officers and Directors voluntarily run England XIV. The four Officer positions are elected bi-annually with the Directors being appointed by the Officers.
President: Glynn Kettleborough. "Badger"
Glynn joined Thames Valley Police in 1975 as a Cadet, and commenced as a PC in January 1978 serving at Bletchley and Milton Keynes. He joined Traffic at Newport Pagnell on the M1, which was a relatively short lived experience as he ran out of road and found a Milton Keynes roundabout.
Returned to shift at Bletchley for a while and then on to Dog Handling, still at Milton Keynes and after two dogs and ten years, tenure involved a move to Communications at Milton Keynes HQ.
Transferred to Avon and Somerset in 1995 because it was by the sea, and worked at Clevedon for a short period, before moving to Weston-super-Mare. (No sea, just mud). Worked on response and beat teams before being injured in 2002 and medically retired in 2003. That accounts for his current mental state.
He is married happily to Ruth, (He knows he is because she told him he is) and she is a Blue Knights member in her own right. Yes, she was on traffic and got a better driving mark than Glynn, but obviously that has never been mentioned. They have twins of 22, Thomas and Beccie, not identical (DUH) , Ben 17 and George 14.
Rides are Honda Goldwing EML Bermuda Trike 1500SE, Kawasaki KZ1000 Ex California Highway Patrol, BMW R110RT Ex Avon and Somerset Police. The final fleet machine being Ruth’s newly converted Harley 1200 Sportster Trike.
Joined Blue Knights in 2009, because they wanted to be involved in a group and have friends to ride with. Would love to see membership grow and those who are members and those who do join in future, to support the group and attend events. ‘You only get out what you put in.
Vice President: Matt Townrow
.
Responsible for: Membership
Matt jointed Devon and Cornwall Constabulary in 2006 and has had the pleasure of working in both counties, starting on Response in Torbay and went to the South Hams in 2008 for a lesson in long country roads and herding sheep of the A380! This introduction in new roads brought him into biking. Shortly after this he swapped Devon for Cornwall, working in St Austell and Newquay
Although he rides the BMW, he has always had a secret passion for Harley Davidson's, especially the 'Night Rod'. When not exploring the roads of the South West he is a big Plymouth Argyle fan. Shortly before being the Vice-President he was on the Directors Committee for the Serving Officers of Devon and Cornwall.
Matt is also responsible for the clubs memberships and supplies.
Secretary: Kevin Adamson. "4X"
Kevin joined the Royal Navy in 1972 initially working in the operations branch, until his transfer to the Royal Navy Service Police.
He served in a variety of duties which included the staff of the Naval Provost Marshal in Plymouth, as a seagoing Service Policeman in HM Ships Campbeltown and Montrose, and finally as an investigator and summary prosecutor at RNAS Culdrose near Helston in Cornwall; where despite this exposure to the Fleet Air Arm he managed to retire as an almost sane Regulating Petty Officer in 2000.
Kevin now works as a design and technology workshop technician in a Plymouth school which he describes as like doing DIY as a job.
In addition to motorcycling, Kevin is an enthusiastic rifle shooter, and part of the Devon smallbore rifle squad, however Olympic dreams are sadly, most likely to remain just that ..... Dreams.
Married to Susan since 1976 he discovered quickly that the secret to a happy marriage was that the man always has the last word "YES DEAR". Kevin and Susan have two grown up daughters, three granddaughters and a new(ish) grandson. Susan enjoys riding pillion to attend chapter events with Kevin whenever possible.
His ride is a Triumph America bought new in march of 2011 and on which he has racked up over 4500 miles already.
Kevin hopes, as secretary to give something back to BK ENG 14 which has welcomed him so warmly.
Treasurer & Webmaster: John Cooke. "Cookie"
Founding Past President
John
served with the Avon & Somerset Constabulary
until his retirement in 2004. During his time
he was a Traffic Officer for 10 years stationed
at Bath. He was a Class 1 Traffic Biker from
early 1981 until 1985 when he gave it up to be promoted to
Sergeant and becoming a police driving instructor
at the regional school in Devizes.
He didn't have a motocycle to ride for many years, but on finding hmself single again, bought himself a BMW K100RT from our very own Chaplain, who was (and still is) a very good friend at the time. He soon realised that his love for biking was in fact, a passion, so changed his bike again to a BMW K1100LT.
He married Tina
in 2003 and joined her to live in Oxford and when he retired from the Force, changed his bike for a new BMW K1200LT. In
2006 they returned to live in Weston-super-Mare
where they both originate from, and John formed England XIV with Muddy Waters and became its founding President. During this time, the Chapter flourished and grew. He takes a very active part in Chapter events and has attended many Rallies, both in the UK and Europe and encourages other members to travel with him. Unfortunately, because Tina can no longer ride pillion with him, John has changed his bike to a Honda Pan European ST1100.
Even though he has changed from BMW, he still courted BMW to become a main sponsor for a charity event which he co-organised in aid of Child Victims of Crime. The event raised over £25,000 and was very succesful in promoting Blue Knights both locally and nationally. Then in 2011, he was part of a team unertaking Great Escape 2 and charity ride throughout Europe which has raised over £15,000 for The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.
John is also the Blue Knights National Treasurer.
Immediate Past President: Pete Lambourn. "Gramps"
Pete
is a past President of England 4 prior to retiring
to Devon and transfering to England 14. He then became the Vice President for England XIV, a position held until 2009 until becoming the Chapter's second President.
He was a member of The Ministry of Defence Police for 37 years, 20 of those as a motorcyclist. He served at various stations around the Country, his last being in Central London where he served his last nine years carrying out VIP and special escort duties.

CHAPTER DIRECTORS
Editor: Pat Sturman. "Thingy"
Pat joined Nottinghamshire
Constabulary in November 1969 and served 30
yrs before retirement in 1999. All this service
was in uniform, mainly at Section, as Pc and
later Sergeant, with a period on Traffic in
the early 70s, a period on Support Group, including
the entire Miners Strike year, a short stint
at Driving School and finishing, for his sins,
as a second session as Custody Sergeant. Blames
this last posting for his present mental state.
On retirement, moved from Nottinghamshire to Brixham, Devon and worked as a Fines Enforcement Officer in Devon and Cornwall courts, before signing up to the present occupation as a Traffic Examiner with the Vehicle Inspectorate, now VOSA, in 2002.
Joined BK Eng IV on moving to Devon then transferred to England XIV on formation, in 2007.
Ruth Kettleborough. "Ruthie"
Ruth served with Thames Valley Police for 10 years from 1979 to 1989. The last seven years were on Traffic covering Aylesbury, Thame and the M40. A Class one driver but never rode Police Bikes. Left to have twins and family life. Was disabled in 1997 with a serious back injury, which is degenerative, her pension then being activated
Ruth is a late starter to the joy of triking, having always wanted to do her bike licence but never got around to it. Now prevented by disability and having taken up the challenge after a major birthday event, she now has her own personally built and adapted Harley 1200 Sportster Trike. Married to Glynn and mother to four, freedom on the road and the sound of the Harley resolves all issues. Is spending the kids inheritance and enjoying it.
Ruth tries to support as many activities and Ride Outs as her disability allows. A willing attendee with her commitment to many events, her appointment to the committee will be welcome.
John Rolfe
John joined the Ministry of Defence Police in March 2003, after completing 24years service in the Royal Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer Caterer.
In 2005 he successfully applied to become a Police Motorcyclist and completed his standard response course with Devon & Cornwall Police. In 2006 he completed a Traffic Law Skills course with the same force, and in 2007 completed his advanced Motorcycle course, accredited with Surrey Police Force. He is currently serving at HMNB Devonport as a section motorcyclist.
John has been married to Jayne for the last 21years, and they have two sons, Finn 16, and Jobie,15.
He currently rides, I say currently as this will probably change by the time it goes to print as he does tend to change his bikes more than some people do their underwear!!, a 2004 Triumph tiger 955i in burnt orange, and a 2010 Sprint ST1050 in black.
John Joined the Blue Knights in 2009, after seeing about the club in his force magazine Talk Through, and seeing Pete & Muddy on the back page. He likes the rides out, and to meet new friends and the socialising aspects of being in a club.
Chaplain: Reg Walker
Reg started his adult life serving in the Royal Navy and later met his wife, Julie who he moved next door to when he was 14 years old! He works for Avon & Somerset as a communications supervisor, which is where he met John Cooke and persuaded John to buy his BMW thus returning John to riding bikes after years away – so it’s my fault.
Reg is a keen motorcyclist riding all the year round and has ridden a lot with John. A radio amateur and keen sailor with a small yacht berthed at Portland.
A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Previously serving on the Bishopric and other positions in the church. He was pleased to accept the position of Chaplain, and the first within the United Kingdom and Ireland Conference. Enjoys riding with the Chapter when work does not interrupt. Hope to see you on the road soon.
INTERNATIONAL HONORARY MEMBER
We in the United Kingdom and Ireland Conference, are fortunate to have one of the three International Honorary Members. Christine Fulton, MBE, was the joint founder of Care of Police Survivors (COPS) in the UK. She has worked tirelessly for COPS and also a great supporter of the Blue Knights. She now joins the King & Queen of Belgium and Erik Estrada (of CHiPS fame).
The photo shows Christine receiving her Colours from former UKIC Vice Chairman, Al Goold.
